Football’s changing: so, let’s ask questions, nothing but questions

|

Football’s changing. Over the last week, there have been numerous events in football which will/would re-shape football:

  • ‘Project Big Picture’, the plans from the super rich clubs to offer the EFL a little bit of a cash injection in return for greater legal power.
  • The return of the talk of the European Super League, a league organised by the super rich in Europe, seemingly backed by money-hungry organisation FIFA
  • Fans are still not allowed back into stadiums in the UK
  • And Sam Allardyce remains in retirement

Enough with article. Enough with reports. This week, every sentence read on the topic of football has only conceived of greater ambiguity over our community’s future. Enough information and regurgitation of the unknown has washed over our heads. So, let us ask questions, nothing but questions… pointless questions that will be unanswered, ignored, questions that will hang astray in a vacuum:

  • What will happen to the local team playing League 2 football down the road?
  • Will the non-league fan get to have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch Premier League opponents batter their local team in the FA Cup?
  • What does this mean for the Premier League teams which never qualify for Europe, but never get relegated
  • What does this mean for the kit men?
  • What does this mean for the booze-filled journey on away days?
  • What does this mean for the environment?
  • Will work let me take days off in order to travel across Europe to watch my super-giant team face another super-duper-giant team?
  • Will my super-giant team still be a part of my community?
  • Will I have to include the trolls from Twitter who slate my team’s players as a part of my football community?
  • Do we fans get a say in all this?
  • Will Twitter trolls ever just stop trolling?
  • Will I ever again see Sam Allardyce save a team from relegation?
  • Is the Champions League not the European Super League?
  • Can the theme tune for this new European Super League match the theme tune to the Champions League?
  • Will the Champions League even still exist?
  • Will I be able to stand up and sing for my team at these fixtures?
  • Has America finally won over football?
  • Could I see Big Sam in charge of Real Madrid when they are fighting off relegation from the European Super League?
  • Will family prices still exist?
  • Is all of this even necessary?
  • What will happen to women’s football?
  • Why are we not talking about the potential of women’s football?
  • How do turnstiles work again?
  • what are turnstiles?
  • Will I still be able to be a season ticket holder?
  • Do we fans get a say in all this?
  • Is Nike right about the future of the game, as in the advert ‘The Last Game’?
  • What will Pele have to say about it all?
  • What would Sócrates say?
  • What are the implications for clubs in continents not in Europe?
  • Will clubs in South America survive?
  • What will be the relevance of the giant derbies in Iran, Morocco and in other countries?
  • Do I start searching for more authentic roots of football?
  • Will the planned Club World Cup work?
  • Will the planned Club World Cup happen?
  • Why does John William Henry have three first names for his full name?
  • Can we trust someone with three first names to transform our community’s game?
  • Why hasn’t Ed Woodward been sacked by now?
  • Will I ever “glaze” my cupcakes again?
  • Could the franchise-build framework make football better?
  • Can we classify these negotiations as corruption?
  • Is Big Sam still involved in any of the dodgy dealings going on?
  • What will grassroots football look like?
  • What will happen to the local team playing League 2 football down the road?

  • Is Big Sam still involved in any of the dodgy dealings going on?
  • What will grassroots football look like?
  • Why are we not seeing more action from organisations such as the FA, the EFL, the PFA, and others?
  • What happens to the young boy or girl, who has grown up playing in cages and on concrete, who plays through the Friday night lights fixtures with an injury to his/her calf, who is the school’s best athlete, who has waited 2 hours in the pouring rain for his favourite player’s autograph, who dreams of scoring at Wembley in the FA Cup final?
  • Is this really what we want to see happening?
  • Do we fans get a say in all this?
  • Do I get a say in all this?

That’s not enough.
